My intention is not for this to be a political post, but I must admit that the presidential inauguration yesterday, along with all the news coverage and social media posts that have followed stirred something in me, motivating me to write. Both sides of the political spectrum are so convinced that one side is telling the truth while the other side is full of absolute lies. And both sides feel a strong conviction that they are the ones who are correct. It’s creating a great chasm among the American people. There are forces of evil from the supernatural realm working in America today. Sadly, many are falling for the lies and deception.

We live in the “Age of Information”. Any and everything we want to know can be “searched up”, as my kids call it, on the world wide web. But along with this easy access to knowledge also comes an overabundance of deception. I truly believe that Satan is working overtime to lead people astray because he knows his chance to draw souls away from heaven is almost over. “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.” (Romans 16:20)

So, how can we distinguish between truth and lies when there’s so much information right at our fingertips? How do we know who to believe? John 17:17 says “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” The best way to recognize truth is to go to the source of truth, the Bible. If we want to make sure we don’t fall for evil deception in this world we must actively be drawing nearer to God. We must make God the top priority in our lives, spending time in prayer with him each day and studying his word so that we may know his truths.

I would suggest taking a look into Romans 1: 18-32, if you wonder what social media posts and news reports to believe. It gives quite the insight on godlessness and unrighteousness present in this world; “people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth”. Satan is very active in America today. Don’t be led astray by the lies that have become acceptable “truths” in our culture. Look at the groups who are promoting the ungodly, immoral behaviors. Then examine who they are attacking and who they are supporting. Remember, God’s truths are the only absolute truths, whether we agree with them or not.

God is the same today as he was on the day he created this world. And he will be the same when he brings his judgment upon it. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) His word was true in the beginning, it is still true now, and it always will be. Therefore, we can trust that “God will bring every act to judgment, including every hidden thing, whether good or evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12: 14)

Satan has the power to deceive the people of this world for a time. He is a master of deceit. We find evidence of this in 2 Corinthians 11:14, “And no wonder! For Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” He speaks lies that sound so enticing and harmless. But the book of James reminds us “Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin and when sin is fully grown it gives birth to death.” (James 1:15) Satan’s main agenda is to keep us away from God’s blessings. Don’t be one who believes the serpent’s lies. Don’t be like those Timothy spoke of, saying, “For some have already turned away to follow Satan.” (1 Timothy 5:15) Falling for Satan’s schemes have everlasting consequences that involve complete separation from God in a “blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 13:50) Be careful what you believe. At times when you’re unsure, seek God’s word, search his truths, and pray!
